Individual Grade Reports in Moodle 1.9

Faculty are encouraged to make their Moodle courses unavailable. Unfortunately, this will also hide the course's final grade from the students. Instructors can run an individual grade report to send to students upon request. See below for the instructions:

Managing Zeros in Moodle 1.9

Students like to see an accurate picture of their course progress throughout the semester.  Moodle has a feature where instructors can choose how to handle blank grade spaces and zeros.  See the video below  on how adjust that feature:

Manually Editing Grades

Sometimes as instructors we need to add a few points to a student's grade or just enter a grade for an in class activity.  Usually, to add grades, we would go to the activity itself and adjust the grade.  But there is an easier way:

Grading Moodle Discussions

Discussions are often used to enhance online course engagement and as course participation.   Some instructors like to count these discussions as participations for their courses.  This can be done using the discussion rating tool in the discussion forum setup.

Click the play button below to find out how to add discussion grading to your course:

**Note:  There is a way to add discussion ratings by students as well.  This is a handy way to add peer reviews and peer critiques to an online course.  This feature does have to be turned on by a Moodle administrator, but it is an easy process.

Backing Up Course Grades

Moodle makes it extremely easy to keep grades for each of your courses.  However, as with any online system, accidents do happen.  That's why it is EXTREMELY important to back up your course grades weekly.

Moodle allows you to backup in many formats.  The demonstration below backs up to an Excel format.  Click play to check it out:
